Star sparkles with personality.
Star has more personality per pound than is fair for any dog! She
would like a home where she can snuggle and cuddle, and be a very
active part of the household.
About 4 years old, Star has a wonderful temperament. Star came
to Illinois Humane when still under a year in age. She had a bit
of a rough start, but has since been with either volunteers or an
adoptive home who each and every one were serious about proper handling
and training. She is accustom to minding her Ps and Qs.
Weighing 43 pounds, Star is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date
on shots. Obsessed with playing with squeaky toys, Star is much
fun to play with or to watch when she gets her toy in her mouth
and shakes, shakes, shakes! However, Star is never toy-possessive
and is quite gentle. She rides calmly and politely in the car. She
is also not destructive, and while she has been crate-trained, her
current foster mom leaves her loose when she must be away from home.
Star would be best in a home of an experienced pit bull guardian
with advanced handling skills. She is dog aggressive. While with
Illinois Humane, after training classes and more positive experiences
on her outings, she can sit quietly while other dogs pass her by.
With dogs she does get along with, she characteristically, as pit
bulls will, plays very roughly. It is important any canine housemate
not escalate play or play too roughly him/herself. Canine play and
interaction should always be supervised. No cats, though.
As an only animal, Star will fill any four-legged void all by herself.
She thrives in an active household, particularly with anyone who
loves to run or who walks for exercise. Take her on a three-mile
run, and after a quick nap, Star is ready to go again. She has a
beautiful athletic build herself. She would make a great agility
dog. With a good handler, she would be fine among other dogs on
an agility field.
